Biden failed when didn't allow Ukraine to strike russian logistics, factories, deposits, troop concentration, decision-making centers well deep inside russian territory.
Being able to intercept incoming missiles is good, cripple the katsaps' ability to build more missiles would be far better.

I want to be optimistic that he will finally see that Putin is playing him. 

I want to be optimistic that he will fire Hegseth after he, on his own initiative, suspended weapons shipments. Speaks to Trump's competency that such a thing could happen.  

But I know full well that Trump can suffer a great deal of muggings by reality without changing course. 

If Trump wants to get a peace deal he needs to wield the stick instead of going mostly carrot with Putin.

I mean, it's pretty clear Trump just wanted to be the one who brokered a peace deal for all the PR and personal ego reasons, no matter how irrational it was at times. Now that Russia has strung him along and (to no surprise) demonstrated to the administration it's not serious about a deal I think it's pretty likely he'll warm to Ukraine and sour on Russia. He doesn't tend to treat people well who don't give him what he wants.

In the end, it's good for Ukraine it worked out this way. All they had to do is show Trump they are they aren't being met halfway here and it's succeeding so far.

I think Republicans used military aid to Ukraine during Biden's term just for divisive purposes. It was just to rile up their base. I think he was trying to make Putin think he'd be easy to work with as president. That's why he put on the big theatrical show where he invited Zelenskyy to the US and humiliated him on national TV.
